Cancer and Reproductive Harm

There is a Cancer and Reproductive Harm warning label on the product, but it's not on the product description online. This is a product used in my family's water supply. I wish the warning was clearer before I purchased it.

Hi Chris,

Yes, most products sold in California carry that sticker due to Proposition 65. This regulation requires labels for exposure to over 900 chemicals—including lead, phthalates, and PFAS—which are often found in dyes, synthetic fabrics, and finishes. Because the threshold for these warnings is so low, even minor exposures to substances like formaldehyde or BPA trigger a label.

Please note that if the product is used as directed, there is minimal risk of exposure to harmful chemicals, as confirmed by manufacturer NSF certification. Potential risks generally only arise if the product is used outside of its intended specifications, such as on a hot water line or in non-residential applications with chemically contaminated water.

If you find similar products that do not have a Proposition 65 warning, it is likely because they are not distributed in California.
